Welcome To Western Civilization Part One

Welcome to Western Civilization Part One! Altough I know the majority of you from Freshman year, there are several of you that I am still awaiting to get to know. In doing so I would like to hear from each one of you about what you are expecting from this class, from myself and your classmates. For those of you who have taken my class before, there are a few changes that will be in place (i.e. blogging, weighted grades, labtops, gender specific classes etc) and I look forward to receiving feedback on what you like, dislike, and what can be improved. Please take a moment to comment on what your expectations are for this class, your expectations of yourself and your expectations of the teacher. I am interested in seeing what your goals are for this class and how I can assist you in reaching these goals. I look forward to getting to know each one of you as we embark on our journey!

Since our class is composed of all girls, AND is 6th hour... it will be hard to focus in class. I like how activity and discussion based class has been so far. I have always been interested in Western Civilization, because all we ever learn about is US history or Asia and Africa. Maybe some South America here and there. But I haven't had much Western Civ, and I've always taken an interest in it. Therefore, my goal in this class is to learn NEW material, which, from what I've see, is everything. I think I'm going to enjoy this class.

i like lots of group work and not always taking notes (like you do in other history classes/other classes in general) i hope that the class will keep me engaged... history isn't my thing. hopefully after taking this class it will be. (or i will like it better) i would also like to earn a good grade, hopefully an A

With the new technology that is being utilized in this class, all I am expecting is to learn West. Civ. in a more technological fashion, which I will most likely find very fascinating. From the teacher I expect teaching skills that get me involved with class, get me to think at a deep level, and a technique to get me fascinated in the lesson enough to trigger other thoughts. I am not expecting myself to get a certain grade, all I am expecting myself to do is think thouroughly about all lessons in class, get involved in discussion, and ask questions, and I am sure I will end up with a successful grade.

For this class I am expecting to learn about Western Civilizations (hence the name). I'm really looking forward to learning about Rome and the Romans. Also, it will be quite interesting being in an all girls History class. I'm expecting you as a teacher to teach information in a fun and entertaining way. As a student, I will be respectful, do my homework, and contribute in class.

I'm really excited for this year. I really liked your class freshman year and with the new technology it should be lots of fun! I'm expecting a fun, innovative class. While I wasn't thrilled to be put in the all girls class I think it could be interesting and different. Of myself, I'm expecting to do my best and do all the work assigned. This semester should be all new with the laptops and gender class!

I really feel that, to be able to learn first hour, my mind needs to have a little time to wake up. So if there were any way that before we do something in class that will be graded, if we could have a "wake up time".

I am very interested in the European civilizations. I am excited to learn about the Greeks and the Romans(especialy). I enjoy architecture and these are two of the most prestigeous architectural civilizations ever. I hope we do a lot of activities because it is difficult to sit in a chair all day. It would also be fun to go outside every once in a while. It is too bad we are right next to a foods room, because we have to put up with smelling tasty food all class. Maybee we could bring in some "culturaly related" food some times? Anyway, I am excited and hopefully we have a good class this semester and maybee next semester.

I expect myself to put my best effort into this class through homework and studying for tests. It will probably be another challenging year and I need to be prepared for it. I am really excited about having another class using the laptops. It should be interesting to see how much the technology effects the learning environment.

I'm pretty excited to finally reach my favorite period in history, the Dark/Middle Ages. It's always been my favorite so I hope to learn quite a bit about it in this class. My goal for the class is to learn all that I can whilst maintaining a passing grade. From the teacher I would like to expect that the information is presented in a unique but productive way, the rest will be up to us, the students.

I have always enjoyed history. This semester I hope to learn aton Western civilizations have always been of the most interest to me and I'm hoping to broaden my knowledge this year. My only regret is that our class does not have the privelage to utilize the new technology and laptops. I also hope learn about how the Greeks and Romans have shaped the societ of today.
